Nothing goes better with a cup of bacon grease than a couple of potato dumplings...
So I started a MSN Space a while back just to try it out, and have pretty much been doing all my blogging there. So for the time being, head on over there for more lefsa-eatin' goodness.

My bro has entered the blogging world...
The Steelers have been my favorite team since I can remember. So I sit down to blog this evening and one would think the main topic would be the Steelers winning SuperBowl XL. But the thing is, I'm totally into this curling match on Canadian tv! It's Team Howard v Team Martin for the Strauss Canada Cup. And Martin (the skip) is curling 92% thourgh 6 ends. He just got around the guard on the last and was able to get one point out of the 6th end. The best part though is when they really need to get to sweeping and they're yelling, "HARD!!" They really get into it! I usually have no idea what the hell they're doing though as far as strategy. Like on the last throw on the first end, there were no other rocks on the ice and the dude just through his through the ice. I guess it was strategy so they continue to have last rock in the next ends but I was perplexed at first. The other good part about watching Canadian curling is the Canadian beer commercials! There's one commercial for a beer named Keith's where this irish dude is reaming out a couple of Canadian dues for something...it's pretty good.
So on to American sports, the Steelers did it! It was a bit ugly but they made the most scoring plays when it counted. Seemd to me like neither team really played well enough to warrant winning a Superbowl but I guess somebody has to win and I'm pretty frickin' jacked it was my team! And they played well when it counted in the rest of the playoff games just to get there. Some good redemption after an awesome regular season last year and not going anywhere. Hey, did you know that Jerome Bettis is originally from Detroit and that he began and ended is football career there since he retired after the game? Yeah, I knew that too, but for the amount of times I heard it yesterday I swear no one thought anyone else knew about it. Wow, was that the only story the press could come up with?
Yikes, Martin just missed a shot and Howard has a chance for a double in the 7th end. Rivetting!!
HARD!!
Shit ya'll! Steelers are Superbowl bound! What a game, Pittsburg just played great, both sides of the ball. After that first throw by Roethlisberger (from here on referred to as 'R' because typing his name is not fun), that was damn near picked off by Bailey, R really put it together and had a hell of a game. 2nd year qb and has his team into the Superbowl, it's a good time to be a Steelers fan. Any holy shit, now I can get the official cap and tshirt that the Steelers coaches and players wear for only $48! Gotta go find my credit card and order one...sheesh...
Steelers beat the 1,2,and 3 teams in the AFC along the way, all on the road, that's pretty tough. Does anyone else think that R looks like the guy from The Office? Jim I think his name is? I wonder if R has a crush on a girl named Pam.
I'm off to celebrate by stuffing my face with some pizza, then watch the next game...
So we bought cross-country skis earlier this year. They are the classic-type ski but are more along the lines of a back country type ski. Somewhere between a classic-classic nordic ski and a telemark ski. They do have metal edges so that helps when sking downhill on a groomed trail at night after having a big meal and getting a big looped in a hut type thing.
Being that the skis are a bit more burly than your normal cross-country ski, we decided today to try a few tele-turns over on the dike. I swear, if a ever go telemarking for real on a real mountain, I will be wearing two helmets and carrying another one as a spare. I have never taken so many headers as today and that was on the frickin' dike! It was like every time I tried to turn, my knee on the uphill side would dig into the snow and head-first I would go. So maybe the ski we got aren't really meant for something like that, or could be that I just suck. More than likely a bit of both. Good news is the snow was soft so no broken noggins.
Sioux take on Mankato tonight in hockey and we're going to the game. Caught the end of last nights game on tv and if tonights game is anything like last night's game ended, it's going to be sweet. Sioux won last night 6-3 but the end of the game was quite entertaining. It all started with about 3 mintues to go when a Mankato guy charged one of our guys and totally laid him out, it was a hard hit...definitely high-light reel material, but cheating non the less. So then a couple of our guys went after that guy and a nice little scrum insued. There's no fighting allowed in college hockey so this was about as good as it gets. A couple guys from each team got 10 minute penalties and got tossed, a few more got put in the box. So after the game was over, a few guys got into it again and one of the Mankato guys SPEARED one of the Sioux guys! It didn't get shown on the tv broadcast but the broadcasters were talking about it as it happened. So hopefully each team can field enough players tonight for a game.
Off to pre-funk for the game...
Just created a "My Space" over at MSN. Not sure if I'll keep it around or updated, but thought I'd give it a try. With my track record for this blog...don't expect too much. Keeping expectations nice and low...

Been awhile, been awhile...very sorry to all my avid readers.
Enough with the apologies, with the amount I've been blogging lately I could start every entry with an apology. And maybe end with one as well depending on quality.
Had a great holiday season. Lindsey and I traveled to Banff, Alberta, Canada for Christmas with her family. Not that her family is from there, we all just met there. We had it planned, we didn't all just show up there randomly...you get the idea. Beautiful place anyway. We rented a house in Canmore which is just outside Banff National Park, about an hour drive from Calgary. The city itself is in a beautiful valley so our view was 360 degrees of mountains. The only bad part was they had a warm spell while we were there so the snow was melting. But we did manage to get a day of downhill skiing in and a couple days of cross-country as well. Canmore is home to the Canmore Nordic Center where the nordic events of the 1998 Olympics were held. It was a really cool facility, only problem it was complete ice when we were there. Which made things fun as well, like watching each other take digger after digger because we had no control on the ice. Good times though.
Ian, Leah, and Kieran stopped by GF to bring in the New Year with us. It was kind of hit or miss whether or not we were going to actually make it to midnight central time but in the end we did. We had a champagne toast at midnight eastern time just in case we didn't make it but that was a bit pre-mature, and we had another at our own midnight. We really should have had more confidence in ourselves. I think we ended up polishing off 3 bottles of champagne over the weekend...mimosas (sp?) are good...
Signing off from snowy GF...ok
We made a great purchase this week, a Roomba. Don't know what a roomba is? Check it out here. It's basically a robotic vacuum cleaner, and it really works! I remember when I was a kid looking at the JC Penney Christmas catalog every year and seeing those robots in there that could supposedly go to your fridge and get you a beverage. They were SO COOL, but only because I never actually got one to see how little it actually did work. But, technology caught up and the Roomba is actually functional. We were a bit skeptical about how well it would actually clean, but after letting it loose in our house for awhile, it was full of dog hair so must have been doing something. We got the Discovery model that came with a home charging station and the roomba automatically returns to it when it is done cleaning, pretty cool. Anyway, I'm sure I'll talk more about it after I use it awhile, but so far it has been worth the money.
